The effect of retailer price promotions on household food waste
Retailer price promotions, and especially multibuys like the popular “buy-one-get-one-free” are often criticised as leading cause of household food waste.
This study is the first systematic, large-scale test of this claim. Contrary to public opinion, our results indicate that products purchased on promotion are not wasted more. Instead, our results suggest that multibuys are wasted less due to households taking preventive action.
