Europanel Webinar – November 24th 2022
Thursday 24.11.2022 at 13:00 CET (12:00 GMT)
Duration 60 minutes
Overview:
Topic A: (Un)intended spillovers of green government policies
Governments are installing different regulations to decrease the use of single-use plastic bags. Are such actions only effective within the realm of plastic bags, or do they also ‘spill-over’ onto other products. In two studies that use scanner and survey data across 22 countries we find that a ban or charge on plastic bags can curb the use of plastic in other domains. However, we also identify a dark side of regulation when it involves charging consumers for plastic bags: in such cases regulation can lower concerns about plastic pollution and make consumers less vigilant about their use of plastic in other domains.
Topic B: How marketing should (not) change in recessions
Marnik Dekimpe will share recommendations about more and less effective marketing in inflationary times. He will draw upon his own research on the effectiveness of marketing actions in recessionary times and summarize key learnings from the field. Expect a set of actionable recommendations how to wisely adjust your marketing spend.
